90pts RP A 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges offers alluring aromas of strawberry and red cherry, comes onto the palate smooth and polished with abundant ripe fresh fruit and subtle raw meatiness, and finishes with satisfying length.
More deeply pitched aromas of earth, dark fruit and subtle animale hints are trimmed in wood spice hints that can also be found on the full, intense and sweet flavors that evidence almost no rusticity though the tannic spine is more prominent. This is very Nuits in character yet not four square or tough. Outstanding! Allen Meadows - Burghound
This is carrying much more generous wood than the Gevrey though it does not dominate the pretty red berry fruit that is very pinot in character and the wood also surfaces on the round and firm middle weight flavors supported by a persistent finish that possesses a bit more depth if less length. A qualitative choice but for those who enjoy villages level wines with plenty of Nuits character, this would be a good, if slightly oaky, choice. Allen Meadows-Burghound
An earthy spicy nose featuring exotic black berry fruit aromas merges into rich, delicious, velvety and beautifully vibrant flavors that culminate in a well balanced finish. Good stuff here. Outstanding! Allen Meadows - Burghound
A more elegant mix of red, black, violet, earth, spice and game notes blends into extremely rich and full-bodied flavors that are dense, serious, concentrated, palate drenching and complex on the beautifully long finish. I quite like this as it offers buckets of character and excellent aging potential. Outstanding! Allen Meadows-Burghound
This is a bit finer with more emphasis on spice and mineral-infused earth notes that can also be found on the complex and classic Nuits flavors that are at once robust but not really rustic, all wrapped in a sappy, dense and equally serious finish that offers outstanding length. This too possess terrific aging potential and is recommended. Outstanding! Allen Meadows-Burghound
Elegant, expressive and intense black pinot fruit aromas lead to earthy, sweet, sappy and delicious flavors that display plenty of dark fruit extract. While the finish is firm, the tannins are quite sophisticated and there is excellent length here. Outstanding! Allen Meadows-Burghound
Lachaux’s 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Proces (from a tiny cru just southwest of town) offers ripe black cherry tinged with sweet spices and hints of barrel in the nose. On the palate, it reveals juicy refinement, creaminess, restrained vanillin, smoke and oak spice, brothy, stock-pot meatiness, and bitter-sweet black fruits.
A rich mouthful of forward, sweet ripe fruit is underlain by refined tannins and this finishes long and polished, with an alliance of formidable intensity with elegance and no superfluous weight. I’m sure this will age well for more than a decade, but it might prove downright irresistible on many prior occasions.
